I'm new to the area and have met only a few people. Since I don't have a regular partner, are most courts at the beach between the Boardwalk and Wharf open to challenges by a single person? Thanks, ~Don

hi don,
Technically, yes they all are open to a challenge when all the courts are on use
I would never challenge on a court that was not my level!
If all the courts are being used, which occurs often on Sat and Sunday, I would always politely asked first to see if they are taking challenges..

As a new person if they say yes, great. If they say no, I would NOT push the issue. It is always best to find a court you are welcome at. You never know, next time they might say yes, or if they need someone to fill in, you will be in line to play.

From my take on your posts, you probably don't have a lot of experience playing beach volleyball. If you did you would not be asking, you would be playing already.

Sometimes it is best to ask a player , that isn't playing, if they want to warm up and bump the ball around a little. That is a easy way to meet other players, so they can get a feel on how you play.

I have taken Phil's classes so many times I can't remember how many times I have taken it or have helped with them. Even though I have played lots of beach volleyball, I still enjoy being in his class, it is a lot of fun. Like I said in a previous post, if you can take Phil's Volleyball class, it is a great way to meet people and learn new skills.

good luck, row

Row: I've played quite a bit of competitive grass but only a little sand. I hope to get into the beach game since moving here from Colorado. Thank you for your comments. I'll look for you this season. ~Don
