Corona Follow Up.
In case you missed the weekend at Main Street Beach, I’ve got to tell you in all the years of working with these types of national tours, this one was THE BEST that I’ve been a part of. The staff of the Corona Wide Open know how to bring the fun back to the beach and find that great balance between great volleyball, a festive atmosphere on the sand and an after party at the El Palomar that had the beach covered with many big, but tired smiles on Sunday !. The weekend was blessed with near perfect weather on Saturday and Sunday and that combined with the Woodies on the Wharf had a spectator crowd of over 2,000 watching highly competitive volleyball all day long on the feature court. The finals of both the Open events had the closet to “AVP” quality volleyball being played on Main Street since the JC Gold days. GOOD STUFF ! The local team of Dan Fisher and Brad Griffith took AVP players Braidy Halverson and John Mesko to their limits in both matches. The Corona ‘s unique scoring system of freezing the rally scoring system at game point and making it a side out game created some great comebacks and lots of added tension to every play being made.
I encourage you to check the website
www.coronawideopen.com and click on the pictures of the Santa Cruz weekend to get an idea of what this tour is going to be about for the 2010 beach season. We are looking at moving to the July 10-11th weekend.
My next CBVA event is July 10th at Main Street Beach. There will be a Men’s and Women’s Open with cash prizes for 1st and 2nd place finishes. There will be both a Men’s and Women’s “A” event also. This event is a qualifer for the U.S. Open that will be played at Manhatttan on May 25-26th. The winners of these four events will earn automatic entry to that event.
