spalding ball or wilson avp official game ball?

Postby buck on Sun Sep 20, 2009 4:24 pm

I've been absent from Santa Cruz area beach volleyball for the last year or two. This weekend I played in Phil's tourney and noticed EVERYBODY had the Spalding King Of The Beach volleyball. However, this isn't the official AVP ball and when I've played elsewhere this summer (on the East Coast), I see most everyone still using the Wilson Official Game Ball.

I'm about to buy a couple new balls. Which one should I get? Anyone care to comment on my observation?

Thanks very much!

Hi Buck I'm the CBVA director in Santa Cruz. The official ball for all CBVA sanctioned events in Santa Cruz and all of California is the Spalding KOB. I have played with both the AVP and the KOB and I really feel that KOB is a far better ball. I have heard that in S Cal that the AVP ball"oon" ball is still played with on most of the beaches. Why? a lot of people feel that the ball for the professionals is what they should play with. Delusions aspirations of stardom? But at Main Street Spalding is KING... as most all players are wanting to get ready for the weekend tournaments. mhullo

Hey Mark,
Thanks for the informative response. I guess I'll go ahead and get one of each, since I'll be playing on different beaches where one or the other is the "standard".
